Maui Nukarau (the trickster) is forced to go on the hunt for the secret of fire after putting out all the fires on the pa. After travelling for many miles with just his friends the birds for company, he comes to the volcano where his Aunty Mahuika, the Goddess of Fire, lives. After tricking her out of all her flaming fingernails Maui must take back the secret of fire so no one will go without ever again.
