Poi Princess is my heart business which has grown from my desire to support others on their Māori cultural journey, while I embarked on my own learning journey. I wanted so badly to connect with my Māori heritage but through different circumstances and disconnects, this at times proved a challenge.
I learnt and started making poi for preschools in 2007, while I was teaching in a bilingual Early Childhood Centre. But I had a dream to one day have a place where teachers and parents could go to get a wide range of Māori resources all in the one place to support their own and the tamariki in their lives journey.
Growing up in the 80’s there weren’t a lot of things that connected me to my heritage and what it meant to be Māori. This of course has been an ongoing process of self discovery and identity. My passion is providing resources that celebrate Māori and encourage our tamariki to feel a connection to their Māori heritage, growing up positively and confidently in their cultural identity.
I currently live in Whakatū (Nelson) with my two daughters whom I Homeschool.
I hope to be able to support you on your cultural journey.
