About the Author:
Stacey Morrison (Te Arawa, Ngai Tahu) is a radio and TV broadcaster whose projects have spanned 25 years. She is also a Māma to three tamariki who have been brought up with te reo Māori as their mother tongue. Stacey herself didn’t learn to speak Māori until she was an adult. It required a lot of research, determination, wonderful mentors and the support of a community to achieve her goal of becoming fluent by the time her children were born.

About the Artists:
Kurawaka Productions is a studio of Māori artists and creatives. Co-developed by a veteran animator and a Ranui-based kura kaupapa, it began as a specialist arts programme offering talented young Māori a gateway into animation and design work. The Kurawaka team has completed a number of high-profile projects, including several animated shorts. They also contributed a selection of portraits of Māori achievers for Kia Kaha by Stacey Morrison and Jeremy Sherlock. My First Words about Tikanga Māori is their first picture-book collaboration.
