My Matariki stories – Aku paki Matariki

This cute pēke (bag) contains 3 children’s stories in both English and te reo Māori versions to celebrate Matariki.

The seven kites of Matariki – Ngā manu tukutuku e whitu o Matariki

It was deep mid-winter and all through the village preparations were being made to farewell the old year and greet the new. For the first time ever, the seventh little sister, Ururangi, was big enough to make her own celebration kite. But when the seven sisters take the finished kites to fly them, the east wind whips them all away into the sky … where they now appear as the stars of Matariki to welcome the Māori new year.

The stolen stars of Matariki – Ngā whetū Matariki i whānakotia

Sam and Te Rerehua love to visit their Grandma and Poua at Te Mata Hapuku (aka Birdlings Flat). They like to collect agate from the stories, with a backdrop of whipping wind, flashing torchlight, and the splash of Pouas gaff in the water. But one night, Grandma notices something mysterious.

Someone has stolen some stars from the sky. And then the patupaiarehe come out to play on the beach… Can Sam and Te Rerehua rescue the Matariki stars?

Flit the fantail and the Matariki map – Ko Flit te tirairaka me te mahere Matariki

Join Flit the fantail and his forest friends on a night time adventure, this time to capture a star shining brightly on the horizon. It is one of a cluster of nine stars and Flit is determined to explore! But when he gets lost, wise Ruru swoops down and Flit learns about Matariki stars and navigation.
