Wiremu Tawhai (Te Whānau-ā-Apanui) is a recognised expert on oral literature and an authority on maramataka, the Māori lunar calendar, an advisor to national science organisations, and a recipient of a Tā Kingi Ihaka Award for his work in strengthening Māori culture through the support of Māori arts.
