The Maramataka (environmental calendar) is an ancient, complex and vast body of knowledge and practices that guided communities to live and prosper in tune with their environment.

This unique deck of 48 cards includes ngā mata o te marama (lunar phases) and ngā marama o te tau (months of the year) and has been created to use at home or in learning environments.

The box of 48 A7 cards includes:

2 cover cards and instructions

30 lunar phases cards with the front of card showing the image, phase name (from Te Whānau ā Apanui) and a blank space for you to add your own iwi/hapu Maramataka if different. On the back the card is numbered for ease of use and has an explanation for each phase.

13 Months cards with the front of card showing the name and on the back of card is an explanation as well as blank space that you can record tohu/signs you observe yourself.

As new learners themselves the creators at Tuhi made this resource in the hope that it sparks an appreciation and interest in this knowledge, and that you begin a process of learning that will likely continue all your lifetime.  Observation is key.  Observe, record and learn, see the similarities, the changes, the impacts of one thing on another.  Understand that all things are connected, and you will find much joy in learning the Maramataka.
